Audio Sample
[edit]Hey can someone tell me out of which song the audio sample is? It sounds really awesome and it would be great if someone knows it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.147.7.192 (talk) 17:02, 22 October 2012 (UTC)

Confusion between different meanings of "drop"
[edit]When I look at the article and the revision history there seems to be some confusion between different meanings of the word "drop". One is the DJ term which the first paragraphs of the article try to describe, the other one is the contemporary pop music term where it simply means "non-vocal chorus". There are certainly pop drops that are DJ drops, but there are also lots of pop drops that do not fit the DJ definition. The result is that the article is somewhat difficult to comprehend in its present state. /194.236.221.108 (talk) 13:56, 6 April 2017 (UTC)
What is a DJ drop? / What is a voice tag or beat tag? Answer:
A DJ drop / voice tag is a custom voice recording. All of the terminology being used today can be very confusing. What is a: DJ Drop, Voice Tag, Beat Tag, Name Tag, Radio Drop and Producer Tag), they all fit into this one category: “Custom Voice Recordings” or (C. V. R. ) as we like to call it at thebeatbosshd.com. Our voices are not only used for all the terms mentioned above, but to deliver any intended message for any audio or video content where a voice is needed. Whether it’s for websites, online, radio, tv, youtube, In store or any kind of social media marketing & promotion.2600:1700:1240:1EC0:ACC6:8D02:9EB7:8D76 (talk) 19:56, 24 January 2019 (UTC)DJ Six Styles[1]

Unsourced claim posted here till someone finds a reference
[edit]- Beyond hip hop, the first known EDM drop has been traced back to the Paris underground scene in 1993 when DJ elleboss played at one of the more well known clubs, Tom Sawyer Tuesday. The drop occurs at 3.22 minutes into the song "Dorian".[citation needed]
- IMHO, we can't have unsourced statements in the article. Specific claims like first EDM drop need a reliable source. This is an encyclopedia. Readers need to be asked to trust what they find here.OnBeyondZebrax • TALK 17:34, 30 May 2017 (UTC)
Merge proposal
[edit]I'd like to propose that Pop-drop be merged to Drop (music), since pop-drop is a variant of drop which is used by musicians in pop tracks. I noticed that there is a small mention of the term "pop-drop" in the genre section of Drop. Since the topic has garnered independent coverage, it could well be merged to that section without a standalone article. --Ashleyyoursmile! 11:22, 6 May 2021 (UTC)
Drop in classical music?
[edit]Should drop-like examples in classical music be classified as "drop"? For example in Shostakovich Quartet no.8 mvt II, where a transformed version of a Jewish wedding march appears from nowhere.116.204.148.160 (talk) 06:17, 3 June 2021 (UTC)

This article conflates "bass drop" (bass register glissandi) with "the drop" (EDM structural element).
[edit]I would propose creating a separate article for "bass drop." The main issue is that the structural element in EDM tracks - the textural change of bass and/or drum introduction after a break and/or build-up - is _different_ from a "bass drop," which is a descending glissandi (and/or descending filter sweep) in the bass register. Confusingly, many EDM tracks employ a "bass drop," the sound effect, at "the drop." However, they are not synonymous. At different points during the current article, different contributors seem to be talking about one or the other idea. Phembree (talk) 17:57, 4 February 2022 (UTC)
- Phembree, my suggestion would be to rewrite portions of the article to clarify the difference. Possibly add a subheading "Bass drop" and/or embed short audio samples (see Help:Sound file markup) that help differentiate both. --2001:1C06:19C9:400:6CD0:E42A:C6DE:E508 (talk) 07:52, 28 November 2022 (UTC)
The spectrogram and associated song don't actually have a drop or buildup of any kind
[edit]I would replace it myself but I am unsure of the protocol for selecting a proper audio sample. Additionally, I don't have the ability to make a spectrogram. 76.244.42.200 (talk) 02:59, 10 June 2024 (UTC)
